Adult Fellowship
Pebble Hill Church offers many opportunities for adults to share in fellowship, connect with one another and participate in the life of our church.
Coffee Fellowship: Following our morning worship service, all are invited to gather in our beautiful, sunlit atrium for coffee, refreshments, fellowship and conversation.
Adult Forum: The Adult Forum presents various programs in our Forum room from 11:00 a.m. until noon each Sunday after the coffee hour. These forums offer a wide range of informative, thought-provoking and topical presentations. Recent forums include: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a slide show and talk presented by member Bill Byrne on his recent mountain climb in Africa; Bioethics in America, presented by Dr. Gregory Eastwood, Professor of Bioethics and Humanities, Upstate Medical Center; Energy, Environment, and the Sacred Balance Between Humanity and Nature, presented by member Ed Bogucz, PhD at Syracuse University; Racism in America, presented by member Rev. Eugene Turner. How to Discern God's Call, presented by Rev. Dr. Peter Shidemantle, Pastor, Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church; Iconography, a slide show presented by members Steve and Roseanne Bulthius on their recent trip to Russia.
Presbyterian Women: The Women of Pebble Hill Church support the purpose of Presbyterian Women through prayer, study, special programs, service and financial support of the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Three circles (groups) meet the fourth Wednesday of the month to study the Bible using the Horizon Bible Study Book. There are usually 12 to 15 women in each circle.
Men's Breakfast Group: This informal group is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Meetings are held at 8 a.m. on the third Friday of each month at The Nottingham on Nottingham Road in DeWitt. Meetings are about an hour long, and there is no structured organization. Attendees lead the discussions, which are spontaneous and range from current social problems or complex issues to items of interest in our church life.
Newcomers Class: New member classes are usually held twice each year, in the spring and the fall. Rev. Shidemantle and New Member Ministries Coordinator Nancy Byrne meet with perspective members to answer questions and provide information about our church life and mission.
Each prospective member is paired with a church member First Friend who makes a pledge of special care and support during the first year of membership. The First Friend invites the new member to church events, makes personal contacts, prays for the person, and stays alert to any particular joys and concerns the new member may have. Additionally, the entire congregation is intentional about getting to know our new members. Our faith community is truly enriched by the new ideas, enthusiasm and spirit our new members bring.
Bible Study: In addition to our three Presbyterian Women Bible circles, we offer Bible study classes at various times throughout the year. These classes are led by Rev. Peter Shidemantle, Ministry Intern LarScenia Thomas and others.
