MEMORY GARDEN
|
Memory Garden HistoryThe idea of a memorial garden was initiated by Martha and Don Ely in 1992. They envisioned a year-round accessible landscaped area to inter ashes of PHPC members, past and present, and their family members. Their hope was for a space to honor those who had passed and "to meditate and enjoy worshipful quiet."
DesignSpiritual and physical cycles are two of the most powerful forces in our lives. They are intimately connected to each other and are fundamentally united by life and death. The Memory Garden brings these cycles together to remember the lives of others and to reflect on our own beautifully fragile lives.
|
PurposeThe purpose of the Memory Garden is to provide a year-round accessible landscaped garden of beauty and dignity, for meditation and quiet contemplation, and for the use of church members and their families for the disposition of ashes of loved ones. Here the living can remember and reflect on the lives of those who have passed on.
Fundamental to its purpose is to create and maintain a cohesive "sense of place" that will allow a peaceful environment for all who visit to remember the journey of life to death. Interment of Ashes |
