Caring Ministries
Syracuse Memory Cafe
The Syracuse Memory Cafe meets once a month at Pebble Hill and provides an opportunity for people with memory changes and their care partners to make new friends, share stories, engage in activities, and enjoy refreshments. The first cafe was held on January 8, 2017. Each cafe includes a gathering time with coffee, songs, a funny ice breaker always provide a plenty of laughs, some type of activity or entertainment and then plenty of time to enjoy a light lunch and conversation.
Some of the activities/entertainment our guests have enjoyed are Twin Magicians, flower planting, Native American drumming, Bingo, Tai Chi, a picnic complete with yard games, and decorating pumpkins for Halloween. As one caregiver put it… “this is the only place we can come where I too can relax because I know everyone is in the same boat."
Syracuse Memory Cafe meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. right here at Pebble Hill!
In addition, as part of Pebble Hill’s ministry to educate both the church and surrounding community on the signs of Alzheimer’s and the disease's various stages, we opened our doors to an early-stage support group that meets here on the third Wednesday of each month.
Pebble Hill has also provided scholarships to the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Dementia Care conference for caregivers who cannot afford the entrance fee.

Welcome Home MinistrySince 2015, Pebble Hill has partnered with InterFaith Works (IFW) to help support their Center for New Americans. Every year, hundreds of new Americans (refugees) are welcomed to Syracuse by IFW. To date, Pebble Hill has helped IFW’s Center for New Americans by providing a truck load of apartment furnishings in 2015; winter coats, hats, gloves and boots; linens; and gift cards to Tops for emergency needs.
Pebble Hill has also purchased and individual members have donated over 150 backpacks and a multitude of school supplies including note paper, pens, pencils, calculators, crayons, rulers, pocket folders, pencil sharpeners, tissues, hand sanitizer and index cards to enable school-age new Americans to begin school with the supplies that they need. |
Samaritan Center
Pebble Hill has been supporting and serving at the Samaritan Center kitchen, located in downtown Syracuse, for decades. We prepare and serve 4 meals a year. Our menu consists of goulash, salad, fruit, bread and desserts made by Pebble Hill members. The serving team ranges from 10 to 15 people. This ministry is a fun and vital project.
